The Lady Hawks have been on quite a run since returning from their annual season-opening tournament in Ohio in late August. Through the last 11 games, they have won 9, all in straight sets (3-0). The two losses came against conference rival Montgomery College 0-3 and Region 15 powerhouse, Monroe University 1-3. Despite only having 8 players on the team, the squad has taken on an identity of "scrappy", which in volleyball terms is extremely complimentary.
Known for their versatile playmakers, Hagerstown has been led by sophomore setter, Emily Gasaway (North Hagerstown HS), Sophomore outside hitter, Emma Smith (Grace Academy), sophomore libero, Everly Harsh (Williamsport HS), and freshman middle hitter, Addison Zeigler (Clear Spring HS). The latter in Zeigler has provided a consistent and stabilizing force as she has produced over 110 kills and a .402 hitting % despite rotating with fellow middle hitter, Zoya Fazal. When the Lady Hawks need a momentum swing, they know look to the #11 to help turn the tide.
Looking like a well-oiled machine, Hagerstown Volleyball still has a few tough tests on their schedule moving forward, including a trip to La Plata to face off against College of Southern Maryland on Thursday, October 2nd. Both teams will be jockeying for postseason positioning as they look to work towards a first-round bye in the end-of-October Region 20 tournament.
As a reminder, the Lady Hawks will be having a Breast Cancer Awareness Night on Wednesday, October 8th at 7pm when they host Chesapeake College. There will be raffles, giveaways, and a bake sale to help raise funds for a cause near and dear to so many.
