After losing a large portion of their team in 2024, the Hagerstown Women's Soccer team seem destined to withstand the test of time as they have started their season off with 2 straight wins.
First, they hosted Richard Bland College in a non-conference matchup on 8/28, to which they responded with a 4-1 victory. Freshman striker, Angie Ayala Luna (Waynesboro Area Senior HS) led the way with a hat trick in her first game action of the season. She also added an assist to returning team captain and center midfielder, Peyton Miller (St. Maria Goretti HS). Miller also is coming off a strong season in 2024 when she led the NJCAA in assists and looks to continue that good fortune into 2025. The Lady Hawks will once again attempt to make a run at their first conference title since their inception. They seemingly have the horses to do it as many new players are now in the fold from MD, PA, and especially WV. The chemistry from the backline, midfield, and attackers is palpable.
They then went on the road against the Lady Knights of CCBC Essex and forced a shutout while once again scoring 4 goals. Luna got the party started with 2 more goals, while Macy Rhinaman and Makayla Wright each gained an assist. Freshman outside back, Samantha Baxter, attacked from her defensive alignment and tacked on a goal to push the score to 3-0 on an assist from Amelia Beck-Schmeider. Miller then slammed the door shut in the first half as she added another unassisted goal herself. The Lady Knights could not seem to get anything going on offense and were constantly in defensive mode. A testament to the true attacking mentality of the Hagerstown WSOC team.
Their next game will be tomorrow, Thursday 9/4, as they take on another tough conference opponent, the Raptors of Montgomery College. The game will be away in Rockville, MD at 4PM following the Men's game.
