Hagerstown Community College Softball traveled south over spring break to Myrtle Beach, SC for the start of the 2026 season. The team played in eight games over four days against division I and II NJCAA competition from Illinois, Minnesota, South Carolina, and Michigan. The Hawks open up at home on Monday, March 16th in a doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m. against Jefferson Community College (Waterton, NY).
Seven sophomores are returning to the Hawks lineup: Alexis Jones (2), playing the outfield this season, (who caught as a freshman); Cayleigh Laughlin (4), playing infield & outfield; Brooke Buhrman (5), playing outfield; Paige Vermillion (6), playing outfield; Bethany Higgins (7), playing infield; Jocelyn Bump (14), pitching and infield; and Morgan Gutteridge (16), playing infield. In 2025, Jones had a .289 batting average and .966 fielding percentage, Laughlin a .312 batting average and .902 fielding percentage, Buhrman a .479 batting average and .893 fielding percentage, Vermillion a.254 batting average and .816 fielding percentage, Higgins a .344 batting average and .918 fielding percentage, and Gutteridge a .275 batting average and .961 fielding percentage.
Freshman joining the squad this season are: Hope Vasquez (3), infielder from Saint Thomas, PA, Shalom Christian Academy; Karen Piercey (10), pitcher and outfielder from Chambersburg, PA, Chambersburg Area Sr. High School; Caroline Logsdon (11), infielder from Greencastle, PA, Greencastle-Antrim High School; Sophie Musselman (13), outfielder from Mercersburg, PA, James Buchanan High School; Emma Harrell (20), catcher and infielder from Sharpsburg, MD, Boonsboro High School; and Haylie Gossert (25), catcher and infielder from Chambersburg, PA, Chambersburg Career Magnet High School.
The coaching staff for the Hawks include Head Coach, Savannah Mills (Head Coach, first year; previous Assistant Coach), Assistant Coach, Patrick Sherman (3 years), and Assistant Coach, Payton Kendall (first year).
