HAGERSTOWN MEN'S XC WINS MDJUCO CHAMPIONSHIP, GROSS WINS WOMEN'S RACE
It was a windy day this past Saturday (October 26th) at Hagerstown Community College as both the Men's and Women's Region 20 XC championships took place in a newly mapped course throughout campus. The Women's race was first at 11am when HCC's Michaela Gross (Smithsburg HS) jumped out to a lead and slowly gained a comfortable cushion over the course of the final 3 miles. She finished over a minute and a half in front of the second-place finisher with a speedy time of 19:41:69 which successfully dominated the field, thus punching her ticket to nationals.
The men's race followed the women's at noon and Hagerstown's runners put on a show. Led by freshman runner, Will Campbell (Waynesboro Area HS), the men's team placed 7 runners in the top 12 finishers. Campbell finished second overall in the entire field and helped to win the MDJUCO championship with his 29:03:80 time. His performance was a clear demonstration of true grit and determination, and his teammates followed his lead to take home the title. The men's team will also be on their way to Richmond as the D1 XC National Championships will take place in just under 2 weeks at Pole Green Park in Richmond, VA on November 9th. The meet will be hosted by Richard Bland College and should be an exciting experience for the Hawks to take on some of the best runners in the country.
Good Luck Hawks!!!
