Hawks volleyball traveled to Perrysburg, OH on Friday, for two days of competition against opponents from neighboring NJCAA regions.
Saturday, September 4th, Hagerstown lost to St. Clair County in 4 sets, 16-25, 25-20, 20-25 and 16-25. St. Clair County, out of NJCAA DII Region 12, is currenty 5-7 on the season, and went 2-2 for the tournament. The College of DuPage, out of NJCAA DIII Region 4, won their match with the Hawks, 3-1, 18-25, 17-25, 25-21, 22-25, ending the tournament with a record of 3-1, and currently are 7-4 on the season.
On Sunday, the Hawks went 0-3 vs. NJCAA DIII, Region 12 host Owens Express, 21-25, 18-25, 7-25, 4-2 for the tournament and are 10-4 on the season. Facing the NJCAA DII Region 12, #18 pre-season nationally ranked Jayhawks from Muskegon Community College , the Hawks lost in three sets, 17-25, 26-28, 18-25.
Madison Baker (7) had 88 tournament assists, Katie Morgan (13) had 27 kills and 7 aces, Jenna Shank (10) led with 43 digs, and Anniya Grantham (16) and Macie Chrisman (18) each had 9 blocks.
"I am not discouraged by these losses," stated Head Hawks Volleyball Coach, Becca Morgan. "This tournament was a learning experience, and we now know the areas where we need to focus and work. The girls fought and were coachable, and I am excited to see the growth we will have this year."
The Hawks open at home, tomorrow, September 8th, against the Anne Arundel Community College Riverhawks, starting at 6:00 p.m.
