Hawks Build for Success
Hagerstown Community College Women's Soccer enters its seventh season as an NJCAA DI collegiate soccer program under Head Coach Clifton Williams. This year's squad combines five returning sophomores with eight freshman recruits.
Returning on offense for the Hawks are Kadenn Martin (James Buchanon High School) and Kayda Shives (Clear Spring High School). Martin, a forward/midfielder and 2022-23 first team NJCAA All Region 20 selection, played in 11 games in the 2022 season, scored 6 goals, completed 2 assists, and promises to be one of this season's leading scorers. Shives, a natural forward, played in 14 games in 2022, scored 6 goals, completed 2 assists, and specializes in creating space and scoring opportunities.
Returning defensively are Carlie Collis (Jefferson High School), Brianna Clever (Clear Spring High School), and Alyssa Lundmark (Chopticon High School). Collis, a center defender and Lundmark a midfielder/defender provide stability in the backfield and when combined with Clever's speed and ball control, the Hawks hope to open up many offensive attacks from the back line of defense.
Eight new recruits join the 2023-24 roster, all from the surrounding tri-state area. Midfielder, Serenity Anderson a graduate of Clear Spring High School, defender, Braelynn Whetsell and outside midfielder/defender, Rachel Hymes both North High graduates, and attacker/midfielder, Lexi Linetty out of Smithsburg High School join the Hawks from Washington County. Playing from Pennsylvania, HCC has added center defender/midfielder, Sydra Royer out of Greencastle Antrim High School, midfielder, Kiera Pryor a graduate of Waynesboro High School, and goalkeeper Madison Ellis a graduate of the Chambersburg Career Magnet School. Rounding out the new additions to the lineup is forward, Ariel Crawford out of Musselman High School in West Virginia.
Coach Williams' philosophy of coaching centers around team bonding, "We must play as one to overcome the many obstacles we face. Our expectation is to have the desire to do great things and the dedication to push to the limit, to become better people. A team that works hard for one another will achieve success."
