Hagerstown CC Women's Soccer (2-4-1) hosted Christendom CC (4-4-0) on Saturday, September 17th for a 12:00 p.m. match at HCC.
Hagerstown lost to the Crusaders 3-2 in their first match earlier this month, however on Saturday, the Hawks showed a renewed sense of urgency. Focused and ready to play, Hagerstown struck first at thirteen minutes on a goal by Kadenn Martin (#34), assisted by Diana James (#9). Martin and James connected again, on a goal by Martin at the nineteenth minute, and in the next possession, Martin dribbled through the Crusader's defensive line to score her third unassisted goal, giving the Hawks an early 3 goal lead. Continuing the pressure, Mikaila Ek (#7) scored the Hawk's fourth goal at twenty-two minutes on an assist by Marissa Fouke (#21), and then Fouke scored on an assist by Martin to increase Hagerstown's lead to 5-0. Megan Lovar (#17) put the Crusaders on the board with a made penalty-kick in the thirty-sixth minute, however, the Hawks dominated the first half with a 5-1 lead and fourteen shots on goal.
At the fiftieth minute mark of the second half, Christendom's Catherine Thomas (#19) scored, uassisted, to cut the Hawk's lead to 5-2. Kadenn Martin responded, again penetrating the Crusader's back line, finding the back of the net, scoring her fourth goal of the game and elevating Hagerstown to 6-2 at the fifty-third minute mark. Kayda Shives (#4) scored on an assist by Mikaila Ek (#7) at fifty-eight minutes, and Diana James finished the game, scoring the final goal at the sixth-sixth minute, assisted by Martin. Kadenn Martin finished the day setting a record as the first Hagerstown CC women's soccer player to score 4 goals in one match.
Hagerstown out-shot Christendom twenty-two to four throughout the 90 minute match. "What an impressive game from the start to finish", stated Coach Clifton Williams. "I think the players learned a lot from our last game, that we must be ready to play when the whistle is blown. Communication played a key role in our success today. Everyone elevated their game and supported one another. I am so proud of all the players, from our defense shutting down Christendom's attack on goal, to the offense's unstoppable attacks on goal. Many different players scored and assisted today demonstrating it takes a whole team to work together to achieve one common goal to win. This team continues to do some amazing things with each game. Let's Go Hawks."
