Hagerstown hosted the CCBC Essex Knights yesterday afternoon for a 4:00 p.m. match at Hawks Field. Essex entered the game with a record of (2-3-0) compared to the Hawks record of (1-2-1).
In the first half, the Hawks started strong, putting pressure on the Knight's defense and causing a penalty kick in the 12th minute of the game. Madison Milburn (#14) took the shot, as Essex goalkeeper, Reagan Cantner (#45), made the penalty kick save to keep the game tied at 0-0. The Knights scored first at 41 minutes on a goal by Kaila Blizzard (#4), assisted by Bailey Arnett(#9), with the half ending 1-0 in favor of Essex. Knights goalkeeper Reagan Cantner (#45) had 3 saves and Hawk's Delanie Dudley (#32) had 3 saves out of 4 shots on goal, keeping the Hawks in the first half of the game.
At 60 minutes in the second half, Hagerstown's Madison Milburn (#14) scored a goal on an assist by Carlie Collis (#5), tying the game at 1-1. Essex scored an unassisted goal by Allison Wysong (#6) making the final score 2-1 Knights.
Delanie Dudley finished the game with 6 saves out of 8 shots on goal.
Coach Clifton Williams stated "We fought a good fight and came up a little short, but the we played hard and I am proud of the team's work ethic. This was the best game we ever played against Essex, and most importantly, the team never gave up and showed a tremendous amount of heart. With each game we are going toe-to-toe with some of the big-name teams in the conference."
