Hagerstown CC goes into their match this evening, against CCBC Essex, in Baltimore, with an overall season record of 6-7. The Hawks (1-3) in conference play, face a strong Knights team (3-1) in conference, and are coming off a three game winning streak against CCBC Catonsville and non-conference opponents Christendom College and Patrick Henry College. "This team is building off of each game, working together, creating space, and capitalizing on scoring opportunities," stated Head Coach Clifton Williams.
Hagerstown pulled down a win against Lackawanna College on October 2nd, beating the Falcons 3-2. Striking first, Hawks mid-fielder, Diana James (9) scored in the 25th minute on an assist from Mairin Buckley (13). Lackawanna turned around in the 28th minute, and again in the 34th minute, to take a 2-1 at the half. The Hawks mounted pressure against the Falcons in the second half, with Marissa Fouke (21) scoring on an assist from Megan Stauch (5) in the 74th minute to tie the match, and Diana James (9) scoring her second goal on an assist by Megan Stauch (5) for the win. Goalkeeper, Delanie Dudley (34) had nine saves out of 11 shots on goal. "This was a very impressive win for us, being forced to come from behind," offered Williams.
On Tuesday, October 5th, the Hawks hosted the Catamounts from WVU Potomac State College and lost 1-0 in regulation. Hagerstown had 28 shots on goal, but were unable to capitalize. Delanie Dudley (34) had five saves out of six shots, with the Catamounts scoring in the 72nd minute.
The Hawks hosted CCBC Catonsville on Thursday, October 7th, winning 12-0 over the Cardinals. Marissa Fouke (21) lead in scoring with 3 goals, Diana James (9) had 2 goals and 3 assists, Alexis Kriner (12) had 2 goals and one assist, Mikaila Ek (7) had 2 goals and one assist, Elizabeth Shank (3) and Madison Milburn (14) each had a goal, and Skylar Whetsell (6) had an assist.
Hagerstown traveled to Fairfax, VA on Saturday, October 9th to play the Christendom Crusaders and came away with a 1-0 win. In the 17th minute, Michaela Horst (10) scored on a penalty kick to end the first half. Hawks goalkeeper, Delanie Dudley (34) made two penalty kick saves out of five saves on the match, and posted her third shutout on the season. "In this game the players put it all together," stated Williams, "The team is doing some amazing things with the opportunities created by their teamwork."
On Tuesday, October 12th, the Hawks celebrated Sophomores Ashley Frey (17), Michaela Horst (10), Brooke Jordan (20), Nichola Maynard (4), Elizabeth Shank (3), Abigail Spielman (25) and Megan Stauch (5) in a pre-game tribute before the match versus Patrick Henry College, out of Purcellville, VA. Hagerstown posted a commanding 11-0 victory over the Sentinels. Marissa Fouke (21) lead in scoring with 3 goals, followed by Mikaila Ek with 2 goals and 1 assist, and Hannah Mendez (16) with 2 goals. Abigail Spielman (25) had one goal and one assist, Molly Brashears (23) and Elizabeth Shank (3) each had a goal, and Michaela Horst (10), Megan Stauch (5), and Leah Stevens (18) each had an assist. Goalkeeper Delanie Dudley (34) posted her fourth shutout of the season. "It's great to see this team's hard work finally paying off," commented Coach Williams.
Match time for today at CCBC Essex is 5:00 p.m.
The Hawks finish out the season on the road at Montgomery, Monday 10/18, and Patrick Henry College, Saturday, 10/23, before heading into the Region 20 DI tournament at Harford Community College on Wednesday, 10/27.
