LADY HAWKS WIN 5TH STRAIGHT; ELDER PUTS HER STAMP ON HISTORY
There were two storylines for the Lady Hawks going into Wednesday night as they opened their home schedule against the Wolfpack of Westmoreland County Community College. The first was continuing the win streak that was sitting currently at 4, and the second was sophomore captain Andrea Elder being 8 blocks away from tying the HCC all-time blocks record just 7 games into her second season. And as fate would have it, both storylines came to fruition as the win streak moved to 5 wins on the year and Elder swatted exactly 8 Westmoreland shots to tie the record at 241.
The victory over the Wolfpack was dominant to say the least as they were winning 52-9 at the half before they finished the game with a final score of 90-17. It was a night of celebration for the Lady Hawks as they look poised to challenge for a top spot in D2 Region 20 this year with several key freshmen joining the fold of which five are WV natives (Briana King, Gabbie Ball, Janae Bradley, Cylvia Prout, and Janae Edwards). With all this young talent being infused into the squad with returners in Elder and fellow captain Tyra Hobbs, the accolades could be abundant come March.
HCC now turns their attention to CC of Beaver County as they travel to western Pennsylvania to take on the Titans next Tuesday, 11/25, at 5PM. Please consider tuning to livestream to catch the game or make the trek to support the home team!
