Hagerstown CC Softball is bouncing back this season, sporting a roster of 10 freshmen and 2 sophomores under Head Coach Alicen Galanis. (Check out the roster here.)
The Hawks started the season traveling south, playing in the Fast Pitch Dreams Classic in Myrtle Beach, SC over spring break. The young squad faced stiff competition from Patrick & Henry CC, Moraine Valley CC, John Wood CC, and Southeastern Illinois College coming off the trip 1-4, rounding out the season start with an overall record of 2-7.
On Tuesday, the Hawks hosted Corning Community College, Corning, NY, for a doubleheader home opener, and their resilience in keeping a positive approach through play paid off as Hagerstown swept the Red Barons 7-6, 17-16, raising the overall record to 4-8. Savannah Brosius went the distance in game one facing 33 batters and allowing 6 runs off of 3 walks, 3 errors and one strikeout. The Hawks had a combined 15 hits with 7 RBIs for the 7-6 win.
Game two stretched the limits of daylight, with Hagerstown holding the advantage through five innings, leading 15-10. In the top of the 6th, the Red Barons mounted a charge, before Brooke Buhrman homered to give the Hawks the lead to end the game.
Next up, the Hawks travel to Howard CC on Saturday, March 22nd (12:00 p.m. 2:00 p.m.) and then to CCBC Catonsville on Sunday, March 23rd (12:00 p.m. 2:00 p.m.)
