Recap of Past 3 Meets for Outdoor Track & Field
For the month of April, the HCC Outdoor Track and Field team has been to 3 meets so far and have 2 more to go to close out the month. With Outdoor Nationals just around the corner the Hawks are showing they are ready to compete for the top of the podium.
On April 1 the Hawks were at the Towson Invitational, at Towson University. The invitational had a packed field of 19 colleges and clubs participating in the meet. Stand outs at the meet for the men were Tommy Bildheiser taking 1st place in the 800 meters with a time of 1:54.53. Ryan Rasco competed in the 1500 meters taking 6th place with a time of 4:02.20. For the women, Josie Reineman won the High Jump with a height of 1.65 meters (5'5") and Gabrielle Cook took 3rd with a height of 1.60 meters (5'3").
April 7th the Hawks traveled to Frostburg University to participate in the Bob Lewis Classic. Again, Bildheiser and Reineman won their events, 1:55.36 in the 800 meters for Bildheiser and 1.57 meters (5'1.75") for Reineman. Rasco took 2nd place in the 3000 meter Steeplechase with a time of 9:53.03, Leah Stevens placed 3rd in the 400 meters (1:04.65), Cook took 3rd in the High Jump (1.52 meters – 4'11.75"), and Mikaila Ek placed 2nd in the Pole Vault (3.03 meters – 9'11.25").
To round out the last of the 3 meets was the Mid-Atlantic JUCO Invitational at Howard Community College on April 15th. Rasco won the 800 meters with a time of 2:00.44. For the women Molly Brashears won the 1500 meter with a time of 5:48.41 and 3rd in the 800 meters at 2:55.03. Maggie Thompson came in 2nd in the 1500 meter at 6:03.34 and 4th place in the 800 meters with a time of 2:59.38.
The Hawks have four more meets in the regular season before the NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in New Mexico at the New Mexico junior College. The Hawks will be back in action this Saturday, April 22 at the Loyola Invitational in Baltimore, Md.
