HAWKS PROVE THEY BELONG AT TOWSON TWILIGHT MEET
The Hagerstown CC track team took their talents to Johnny Unitas Stadium last Friday, April 4th, as Towson University hosted the Towson Twilight Senior Meet. Hawk athletes participated in various events, some of which they came away victorious.
Freshman Austin McCoy took first place in the men's 400m at a time of 48.85. Notching his first collegiate invitational win. Next came sophomore Tanyon "TJ" Shaull in the men's javelin who threw the best he has ever thrown. He finished with a final distance of 50.25 meters which translates to 164.86 feet. That was a massive 10-foot PR and good enough for first place on the podium.
Freshman Michael Schumacher won the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:53.18 in his hurdle-and-splash debut. It was the first collegiate invitational win for Schumacher, coming just fourteen days after his maiden collegiate race. The 2020 Chambersburg Area Senior High School grad is also an elite road motorcycle racer outside of his studies/athletic pursuits—competing at speeds upwards of 175 mph. So he is no stranger to living life in the fast lane and has been a great add to the squad this spring.
Orther notable performances on display started with freshman Odin Desir, who PRed in the 100m with a time of 10.72 (wind-legal 1.6 mps). Despite only placing fourth, he proved he could stick with three NCAA D1 performers and outrun all of the other runners in the 22 athlete field. Sophomore All-American high jumper, Aidan Faith, placed second in the her event only to a D1 collegiate performer from Towson University. Her jump of 1.66 (5' 5 1/4") is an outdoor PR and currently the #3 ranked outdoor performance in the NJCAA nationally.
The Hawks next stop is this coming weekend (April 11-12) at Howard CC for the NJCAA Region 20 Track and Field Championships. They will test their mettle against the best in the conference and state at the JUCO level as the look to take the gold. GO HAWKS!
