Four Hawks Qualify for NJCAA Indoor National Meet in Topeka, KS
The Hawks Indoor Track & Field team sees four athletes heading to the NJCAA Division I National Track & Field Championships.
For the men, Tommy Bildheiser qualified for the 1000 meter and the 800 meter in the same meet at the VMI Winter Classic in Lexington, Va. Day 1 of the meet Bildheiser logged a time of 2:31.20 in the 1000 meter locking him in for a spot at nationals. On day 2 Bilheiser came back and qualified for the 800 meters with a time of 1:56.66. Not to be left out Ryan Rasco also qualified for the 1000 meter at the VMI Winter Classic with a time of 2:31.59.
For the women, Josey Reineman was the first Hawk athlete to qualify for nationals at the Cardinal Classic in late January. She won the event in that meet with a height of 1.61 meters (5' 31/4") and a career best jump. Mikalia Ek will also be representing the Hawks in the Pole Vault at nationals. Ek qualified at the VMI Winter Classic with a clearing height of 3.06 meters (10' ½"). After qualifying Ek set her focus on moving the stick up. The following week at the VMI Winter Relay, Ek cleared 3.2 meters (10' 8"), shattering her personal best by 7 inches and breaking a 23-year-old HCC school record by 2 inches.
The Hawks will be leaving Hagerstown on March 1st to join Junior and Community Colleges from all over the United States at the NJCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field National Championships. Washburn University is hosting at their Indoor Athletic Facility in Topeka, Kansas on March 3rd and 4th.
