The Hawks began the season with a brutal stretch as they have opened the season with a murderer's row when it comes to region 20 opponents including CCBC Essex, Montgomery College, and Howard CC. That stretch continued as they went to battle with the Fighting Owls of Harford CC at home on Tuesday (9/16). They fought valiantly to defend their home pitch but succumbed to the opposition in the end by a score of 3-0. A pair of 1st half goals by Harford took the wind out of the Hawks' sails early as they could not dig out of the hole before the clock struck 0:00. However, they had to utilize their goldfish memory as they turned the page quickly to another conference opponent in the Lakers of Garrett College on Thursday (9/18).
Hagerstown seized control of the game against the Lakers from the opening whistle as they peppered the opposing goal with 22 shots. The difference maker came for the Hawks in the 60th minute as they strung together a handful of passes across the field on the attack as it went from midfielder, Carson Feeser, to winger, Hakeem Marafa, across the box and back to central where sophomore forward, Kundai Makusha, tapped in the lone goal and game winner. The Hagerstown defensive back line was stellar all day, led by captain and center back, Cole Kriner, as they earned their first conference win of the season to move to 3-4-1 overall.
They look to take this positive momentum and build on it as they continue their region 20 tour next Monday (9/22) when they travel to Allegany College of Maryland (Cumberland, MD). Their game is slated for 5:00 PM following the women's game and it will be livestreamed on Hudl on ACM's website. Please consider tuning in to support the Hawks!!
