Hagerstown CC Golf Takes Home Region 20 Runner-Up Honors
The Hagerstown CC Men's Golf team descended upon Oakmont Green Golf Course (Hampstead, MD) this past week (April 16th-17th) to battle it out for the Region 20 NJCAA Championship against 3 other MDJUCO colleges. It was a two-day event that utilized cumulative scoring to decide the winner and it was a two school race the entire way as defending champions, Anne Arundel CC, would not "go quietly into that good night."
During the first day, all 9 of HCC's golfers played a full 18 holes before cutting it down to the best 5 golfers during the second day. Sandhills Community College transfer, Austin May, was the unspoken leader this season for the Hawks and that did not change during Region 20 rounds as he finished first team all-conference along with fellow teammates, Bryce Hartle and Blake Whitcomb. The other golfers getting the nod to represent HCC on the second day were William "Nickel" Lawrence V and Peyton Cramer, both freshmen. HCC (+50) trailed AACC (+43) by 7 strokes entering the final round and despite shaving that exact amount off from day 1 to day 2, AACC had a great round going only +26 which allowed them to prevail as the region 20 champs. Bryce Hartle finished in 3rd place overall for the Hawks, followed by May who finished 5th which wrapped up the second place, runner-up finish.
Next on the docket for HCC Golf will be the NJCAA Southeast District Golf Tournament at the Golf Club of Bristol in Bristol, Tennessee beginning this Sunday, April 27th. Please stay tuned for more updates as Districts commence and Nationals draws near. GO HAWKS!!
