HAWKS SURGE IN SECOND HALF TO STIFLE BEARS
The Hagerstown Men's Basketball team found themselves trailing 38-29 at the half of their first home game against district rival, Harcum College. It had been a one-sided affair to this point as the Bears did everything in their power to keep the Hawks off balance in the first stanza. But after a motivational speech and some halftime adjustments by Head Coach Bernard Hopkins, Hagerstown came out firing on all cylinders after the break. Led by sophomores Deondre Mitchell (16 pts) and Mason Sword (14 pts), the Hawks could not be denied as they outscored the visitors 50-33 in the second half for a final score of 79-71, thus shutting the door on an opponent they will be sure to see again later this season.
Other key contributors for the Hawks were freshmen Najeh Allen (St. Maria Goretti HS) and Camerin Horton (Baltimore City College HS) as they added 13 and 12 points respectively. Hagerstown now turns their attention towards next Thursday, November 14th as they travel north to Monroe University to take on the Mustangs at 7PM followed by Elgin CC on the 15th at 3PM in the Monroe Invitational.
