If you look at Hagerstown CC men's basketball schedule you'll notice that the first 8 games are on the road.
Last weekend, the Hawks were invited to the Jimmy Goldston Classic at Louisburg College in Wilmington, NC. On Friday, November 4th, the Hawks played the Wake Tech Community College Eagles to start the season. Hagerstown had a 41-37 lead at halftime, and after battling with the Eagles through out the second half, came away with the 95-78 win. On Saturday, November 5th Hagerstown played Louisburg College and held the Hurricanes to only 18 points in the first half. Coach Hopkins remarked, "I wasn't sure how the team would respond to starting the season on the road, and they responded by stepping up the defense."
Yesterday afternoon, the Hawks played their first Region 20 and MDJUCO conference game at Allegany College of Maryland. For the first time this season the Hawks trailed at halftime 37-42, but came out on a mission in the second half, outscoring the Trojans 34-23 to come away with the 71-65 victory. "We didn't shoot well in the first half and couldn't seem to find our way," commented Hopkins. "Alex Ofori was the difference in this game. He did every little thing he needed to do in the second half, from rebounds to steals to 'and ones', to help keep the team together and in the game."
Hagerstown travels to New Rochelle on Friday to play in the Monroe College Invitational. The Hawks face the Mustangs at 7:00 PM on Thursday, November 17th, Brunswick Community College at 5:00 PM on Friday, November 18th, and Richard Bland College on Saturday, November 19th at 4:00 PM.
