The Hawks ended a string of losses at home last night, defeating Frederick CC 68-53, at the ARCC. Malik Jordan (3) scored a season high 19 points against the Cougars, with 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals. "Malik played his best game of the year so far," commented Head Coach, Bernard Hopkins. "He took quality shots, showed good game management, and displayed team confidence and leadership." The Hawks size and depth gave them the edge over Frederick, as the game progressed. Charles Sapp (42) scored 14, pulling down 10 rebounds, and Alex Ofori scored 7 with 4 rebounds giving Hagerstown presence inside, and Keith Burke (33) came off the bench to score 9, with 3 rebounds, 2 assists and one steal.
The Hawks, leading at the half, were able to withstand the Cougar's offensive pushes, continuing to build upon their lead for the first time this season. "This is a game that we had to win," stated Hopkins. "We minimized our turnovers and mentally stayed in the game."
Next up for the Hawks...the College of Southern Maryland comes to the ARCC on Saturday, December 11th, tip-off at 3:30 p.m. When asked about his thoughts on the matchup, Hopkins replied, "They play a fast-paced game, score a lot of points, and are well-coached. We need to continue to play smart, play hard, and play our game to control the tempo. If our guys can build on this win and continue to play hard, more wins will come our way."
