HCC baseball opens with a split

HARRISONBURG, Va. — Hagerstown Community College opened its season with a doubleheader split against Eastern Mennonite on Sunday, winning the second game 16-4 after dropping the opener 7-6.
In the second game, the Hawks (1-1) scored 11 runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 12-1 lead.
Winning pitcher Justin Smith helped his cause with two doubles and four RBIs, while allowing two earned runs and striking out seven in five innings.
Matt Kline had two hits, including a three-run homer, and Brandon Toloso and Geraghty Showe each had two hits and an RBI.
In the first game, Eastern Mennonite scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to take the win, after HCC scored three runs in the top of the seventh for a 6-5 lead.
The Hawks committed six errors in the fifth, and Eastern Mennonite capitalized, scoring four runs to go up 5-3.
For HCC, Sinjin Shoop had three hits and two RBIs, Kline and Showe each had two hits and an RBI and Quin Ambeault added two hits in the loss.
