2023 HJC / HCC Athletics Hall of Fame Induction
The Hagerstown Community College Athletics Hall of Fame induction dinner and ceremony took place on Saturday, October 7, 2023 in the ARCC lobby. Six new members were added as the class of 2023. Missy (Kesecker) Cutchall - Softball
After a pair of high school regional titles, Missy set two HJC records in 1995 with 14 wins and 99 strikeouts in a season. She pitched a complete game to help clinch the 1997 Region XX championship earning HJC a berth in the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, KS. Missy was a two-time All-MDJUCO, All-Region XX, and All-Region XX tournament selection. Her 27 career wins helped the 1997 team set a school record for the longest winning streak in school history.
Missy has been the President of Tri-Fastpitch, inc. since 2001. She is an ACE Certified coach through ASA Softball and is the head coach of the 18U Gold Team, traveling the country developing our youth to be the best athletes and people they can be in life. Missy received her A.A. from Hagerstown CC and her Bachelor's from the University of Maryland University College in 2006.
Matthew Greene - Baseball
Matt played 2nd Base and was twice named 1st team All-Region XX and All-MDJUCO. As a freshman, Matt made the Dean’s list and was 2-time Batting Champion with a .368 BA, 70 hits, 14 doubles, and 5 triples earning team MVP honors. As a sophomore, he was the Team Unsung Hero with a .401 BA, 20 doubles, 7 HR, and 83 hits. Matt helped lead the Hawks to two 40-win seasons, the Eastern District and the Region XX Championships, and getting a bid to the 2008 NJCAA World Series. At Frostburg State, Matt broke 7 single season records as a part of the 2009 conference champions. In 2010, Matt was honored as a 3rd team All-American while FSU won the 2010 CAC Tournament Championship and a bid to the NCAA Regionals. Matt finished his FSU career as a 2-time All-Conference, All-ECAC honoree and FSU’s 2010 Male Athlete of the Year. He graduated with a degree in Law in Society.
Erica McCann - Volleyball, Cross Country, Track & Field
Following a 1998 high school state championship in the 100m hurdles, Erica ran cross country, outdoor track and played volleyball at HCC. She was named to the 2000 Fall All-Tournament team in volleyball, going on to earn 2nd team All-Region and All-MDJUCO honors and she was a member of the Cross Country team that finished 10th at nationals.
A versatile athlete, Erica received an offer to play D1 volleyball but chose to move on to Salisbury University to focus on her degree in Exercise Science where she graduated Cum Laude. Erica ran the 2010 Frederick Half Marathon and eventually earned a PR of 1:36:00 in the event. In 2013, she ran the Lehigh and Baltimore Marathons and since has earned a PR of 3:32:00. In 2017, she ran the Outer Banks Marathon, then ran the 2018 Richmond Marathon to qualify for the 2020 Boston Marathon, which was cancelled that year.
Dawn Shatzer - Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field
Dawn qualified for nationals in 1998 for the heptathlon. At the 1999 Northeast District Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Dawn won the 3k, 5k, 10k, Discus, and placed in others scoring 93 of the team’s 217 points. She became an All-American at the 1999 NJCAA Outdoor Track Nationals finishing 10th in the 5k & 7th in the 10k. At the 1999 NJCAA Marathon Championships, she earned All-American status finishing 2nd, breaking the school record by 17 minutes. At Milligan College (TN), she was a 2000-2002 NAIA National Qualifier in Cross Country and the 5k & 10k for Indoor & Outdoor Track. In 2001, she placed 6th in the Indoor 5k at the NAIA Nationals and led her team with a 2nd place finish to win the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championship in Cross Country. Dawn has placed 1st in the 2019 St. Patricks Run Fest 5-miler, 1st in the 2018 Nick Adenhart 5k, and 1st in 2018 Chambersburg RUNFEST 5k. She continues to run for the Cumberland Valley Athletic Club with goals of competing at the Outdoor Track Nationals.
Dave and Sue Dorsey - Volunteers
David and Sue Dorsey have served as volunteers for more than 23 years. They played a significant role in raising $511,000 for HCC Athletic Endowed Student Scholarships by leading the operations of the Courtside Café, selling concessions at the Courtside Café in the ARCC during sporting events and special events. Dave has worked more 8,300 hours in the Athletic Office and Sue has logged over 4,200 hours in the ARCC, the Math and Science division offices, and with the HCC Volunteer Corp. Dave and Sue continue to serve as gatekeepers for all ARCC indoor sports events. Dave and Sue Dorsey have logged a combined 12,500 hours volunteering at HCC, the equivalent of one person working 24 hours/day for 520 straight days.
Dave and Sue Dorsey are an example of reliable dedication that freely give their time and effort for the betterment of our HCC students. The Dorsey’s are beloved figures to current and former HCC student-athletes and continue to be the welcoming faces to our local community.
