Miller, Shoemaker & Morgan Receive Season Honors

Hagerstown Community College would like to congratulate sophomores Maddi Miller for achieving First Team All-Region XX and Alyssa Shoemaker for achieving Honorable Mention Region XX for the 2019 season.

Miller achieved a first team honor serving as a primary setter while starting all of Hagerstown's matches. She recorded a team leading 284 assists and 105 digs. Miller led the Hawks offense to a 19-2 season which included an 18-match win streak.

"Maddi is very driven on and off the court and is always wanting to better herself," Head Coach Rebecca Morgan said. "Maddi has been out setter both years and has helped lead our offense tremendously."

Miller is an Exercise Science Major and is looking to pursue her master's degree and dreams to be an athletic trainer for the Washington Nationals someday.

Shoemaker achieved an Honorable Mention for Region XX this season serving as Libero after starting all 21 matches for the Hawks. She recorded a team leading 272 digs along with 50 assists. Shoemaker led the Hawks defensively.

"Alyssa is a hustler, whether it was a game, practice, or at an open gym, I rarely saw the ball hit the floor," Morgan said.

Shoemaker is a Communications Major and hopes to be in the broadcasting field someday.

"Maddie Miller and Alyssa Shoemaker are the type of athletes every coach wants to have on their team," Morgan said. "I am so thankful I was able to be their coach this season and they are so deserving of these awards."

Shoemaker earned First Team All MDJUCO honors as libero, along with freshman outside hitter, Katie Morgan who earned Second Team honors All MDJUCO.  Morgan who lead the Hawks in kills, with 156 on the season, also ended the season ranked 16th in Division II

NJCAA in service aces per set.  Katie is the younger sister of Head Coach, Rebecca Morgan and Assistant Coach Brooke Morgan, and is carrying on the family tradition of playing volleyball for the Hawks.
