The Lady Hawks Volleyball team's season ended on Sunday with a loss to Montgomery College in the Region XX Tournament final (25-23), (22-25), (23-25), (21-25). The loss snapped an incredible 18 game winning streak that dated back to an August 31 loss against Waubonsee Community College in the Owens Express Invitational.
"It breaks my heart that this happened," Head Coach Rebecca Morgan said. "These girls work so hard and show such great effort every single game, every single practice and just show up to everything."
Britney Malphurs had 25 assists and Maddie Miller added 21.
Earlier in the day the Hawks were in action against Frederick CC in the semifinals taking the win (25-15), (25-14), (25-18). The Hawks recorded 37 digs, including 20 from Alyssa Shoemaker. Morgan Dyer led with six blocks that were crucial to the Hawks success. The game was all about runs starting with a 12-4 advantage to start the first set and a 9-0 run to take early control of the second. The Hawks finished off the Cougars with a 7-0 run to start the third and never looked back.
"I'm really proud of them," Assistant Coach Brooke Morgan said. "They put in that effort and definitely have the biggest hearts for volleyball of any team that I have ever been a part of."
The Hawks will look different next season but will also look back on the leadership of this years team to become even better next season.
"The sophomores were leaders from day 1," Rebecca Morgan said. "Our girls showed growth even in the tough moments."
Finishing the season 19-2, there is a lot to be proud of under first year Head Coach Rebecca Morgan and her Sister/Assistant Brooke Morgan. The future looks bright under their leadership.
