The Lady Hawks played their first home game in the 2019-2020 season on Wednesday and fell to the Chesapeake Skipjacks 90-54.
Alexis Harris led the Hawks with 17 points and seven rebounds.
Hiyanna Keller recorded 11 points and five rebounds.
"We had a lot of difficulty getting the ball through their press which lead to a lot of easy baskets for Chesapeake," Head Coach Bernie Semler said. "They definitely had a lot of height and controlled the boards."
Early season struggles for the Hawks will turn into lessons to be learned for the future.
"I still think we started the game well and hung in there for the first six minutes, but fouls on our point guard Kha'Niya Evans sent her to the bench early," Semler said. "We played much better in the second half and continued to run our offense; our defense is still a work in progress."
Chesapeake was last years Region XX representative to the National Championship and the Hawks know they have plenty of things to improve on going forward but are up to the challenge.
The Lady Hawks will be in action again on Monday November 11th at home against Frederick CC at 7:00PM.
