NORTH EAST, Md. — Tyesha Taylor had 15 points and 17 rebounds to lead No. 3 seed Potomac State (19-5) past No. 6 Hagerstown Community College in the NJCAA Region XX Division II quarterfinals Thursday at Cecil College.
HCC's Chelsea Cover missed a 3-point shot at the buzzer as the Catamounts survived the Hawks' upset bid.
The Hawks (12-12) trailed 27-25 at halftime and 43-36 after three quarters before rallying in the fourth.
A 3-pointer by HCC's Sarah Meiklejohn tied the game, 54-54, with 32 seconds left.
With 9 seconds remaining, Taylor was fouled and went to the line. She made her first free throw, giving the Catamounts a 55-54 lead. She missed the second, but Potomac State got the rebound.
With 2 seconds left, Bethany Arndt was fouled and made both free throws, extending the lead to 57-54. Cover managed to get a shot off as time ran out, but it was off the mark.
Cover had 14 points and five rebounds to lead HCC. Janae Holman added 10 points, Brittanie Wray had seven points and six rebounds, Meiklejohn had seven points and five rebounds, Tori Fowlkes had six points and six rebounds and Hiyanna Keller grabbed a team-high seven boards.
