Lady Hawks win home opener with aggressive defense

Hagerstown Community College took a five-point lead with 90 seconds remaining and held of Potomac State to win in its home opener on Wednesday.

Chelsea Cover had 20 points and seven rebounds and Malerie Wratchford had 10 points to lead the HCC (2-0).

Potomac State cut the Hawks' lead to 61-60, but HCC held strong on defense to prevent a go-ahead basket.

"We played tremendous defense and took away their shooters," said HCC coach Bernie Semler. "(Potomac State) didn't even get a shot off and ran the clock out."

Hiyanna Keller had six points and 12 rebounds and Morgan Henderson had eight points and two steals for the Hawks, who led 31-24 at halftime.
