Princess Anne, Md.— There was fast and there was Henry Schmidt fast.
The men's and women's indoor track and field team traveled down to the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore to compete in the Eastern Shore Invitational on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.
The men's team took 7th place as a whole, but Schmidt blew away his competitors and won the 3,000 meters in 9:01.75, beating his personal record by 10 seconds. The second-place competitor finished the race in 9:20.60, an 18.85 second time difference compared to Schmidt.
The women's team tied for 5th with Morgan State University.
Khelsa Connelly placed in the top three with a time of 5:51.50 during the mile run. She also placed in the top five with a time of 11:49.56.
HCC Alumni Micaela Fleetwood, a former three-time NJCAA All-American at HCC, placed second in the Pentathlon.
The Hawks will compete on Feb. 7-8 in the VMI Winter Relays at the Virginia Military Institute located in Lexington, Va.
