Hagerstown Defeats MDJUCO Opponent Cecil

Hagerstown, Md. - The Hagerstown Community College men's soccer team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they defeated MDJUCO opponent Cecil College 4-0.

For the second game in a row, the Hawks scored a goal in the first five minutes to take an early 1-0 lead. Sophomore Bobby Matusek found himself on a breakaway in the 4th minute, but was taken down from behind before he could get his shot off. Classmate Kwasi Ameyaw stepped up to the penalty spot and confidently placed the ball into the side netting.

In the 27th minute, the Hawks extended their lead when sophomore Matt Suddith tucked away a through ball from freshman Akheem Riley. Riley currently leads the team with three assists in two contests.

HCC looked to extend their lead in the 62nd minute when Matusek took a pass from freshman Jonah Smith and flicked a shot past the Seahawk keeper but it would be denied by the right post. Smith would respond just 10 minutes later when he netted his fourth game in two games after he collected a lose ball in the Cecil goal box and placed it into the net.

Sophomore Bradley Coblentz would finalize the scoring at 4-0, when he powered home a shot from teammate Patrick Creadick.

Hagerstown goalkeeper Adam Carrier would record four saves in the win, while freshman keeper Ethan Waters came in to preserve the shut out late in the game.

The Hawks return to action on Saturday, September 7 when they travel to the Patrick Henry Tournament at 5:00pm to take on Cape Fear Community College.
