Bernard Hopkins, a native of Baltimore, was a standout forward who graduated from Overlea High School in 1992. He played for the Hagerstown Community College Hawks from 1992-1994 and then transferred to Virginia Commonwealth University, (VCU,) playing from 1994-1996. As a Ram, he finished his junior year 25th in national scoring percentage (58.5%,) and as a senior, lead VCU to regular season and tournament championships. VCU earned a bid to the 1996 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament, where Hopkins was named the CBS Chevrolet Player of the Game in the loss to Mississipppi.
His professional career includes one year with the Yakima Sun Kings (Continental Basketball Association, 1996,) and from 1997-2012 he played for several teams in Spain including CB Gran Canaria, Valencia BC, Tenerife CB, CB Valladolid, Gipuzkoa BC, and Obradoiro. Mr. Hopkins became a naturalized citizen of Spain.
