Hawks Drop Home Opener in Thriller With Chesapeake

Story By Phil Marshall

The 2019-2020 Men's Basketball Season got underway on Wednesday against the Chesapeake Skipjacks, but the Hawks came up short 84-76.

Tyrin Hollis was the team leader in points with 22.

Rodney Black recorded a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Raphael Castillo was the 3rd Hawk to score in double digits with 11 points.

"We came ready to play and I think we definitely played hard," Coach Curtis Graf said. "We lost some momentum often but we continued to fight and I am very proud of them."

The two teams went back and forth for the entirety of the game and despite the loss, Coach Graf is excited to see how this team continues to improve.

"It just wasn't our night and we lost our composure a few times but it is only the first game of 30," he said. "We have to improve going forward on keeping our composure when the score is close; we have to learn the plays better so we can execute more efficiently."

The Hawks will resume play on Saturday and Sunday in the Kenny Wade Tip-Off Tournament in Martinsville, VA with match-ups with Patrick Henry CC and Cape Fear CC
