HCC Holds 2019-2020 Pep Rally

HCC Holds 2019-2020 Pep Rally

Story By Phil Marshall

Hagerstown Community College held their fall pep rally in the Student Center on Wednesday.

Student athletes from eight teams came to enjoy refreshments and mingle with other student athletes and staff. The goal in mind was to get regular students familiar with their athletes and grow support for the upcoming seasons to come.

Athletes from all over have to come to Hagerstown CC and there's good reason for it.

"I came here to make a name for myself in a place that didn't seem possible," Men's Soccer Player Jacobi Tolliver said. "There are so many nice people here and I enjoy playing for a great team in a great community."

Being comfortable is always a plus no matter where you go in the college ranks.

"I wasn't ready for a four-year school," Men's Soccer Player Ahmed Safi said. "I wanted to spend one-year somewhere I felt comfortable and showcase my skills."

Along with the players, also come great coaches who are always out to make their athletes better on and off the field. That is no different at Hagerstown CC.

"I came to Hagerstown CC because Coach Hopkins brought me here," Men's Basketball Player Ralph Castillo said. "He cares about kids who play hard and that is what drew me to Hagerstown."

Role models are typically what you think of when you think of college coaches and they are out to set examples for their players that can last a lifetime. It was no different for Men's Soccer Captain Matt Medina.

"I came to Hagerstown CC because Coach CJ Trammell connected with me and expressed how becoming a Hawk would change my life and help me succeed," Medina said. "He told me that he was trying to build team and that he 100% believed in me from the start; that is leadership at its finest."

Hagerstown CC is also about enriching the student athletic experience. Katie Morgan knows all too well that her role with the volleyball team but also the importance of education.

"Coming to Hagerstown CC was an easy choice for me," Morgan said. "I'm close to home and I get to further my education while playing for a team I love."

Hagerstown Community College is all about opportunity in the classroom, the community, and on the field. Student athletes that play here represent the brand of "Staying Close, Going Far."
